About Dr. Geraghty

Dr. Geraghty is a board certified Neuroendovascular Surgeon, and the medical director of Neuroendovascular and Stroke with AMITA Health in the Chicago-land area. He graduated medical school from The University of Colorado which is where he first developed a passion for cerebrovascular care.  He completed a Radiology residency at the University of Virginia and then went on to complete highly sought after fellowships in Neuroradiology and Interventional Neuroradiology also at the University of Virginia. After six years with Advocate healthcare, Dr. Geraghty was recruited by Amita Health to serve as System Medical Director for Neuroendovascular and Stroke.

Dr. Geraghty and his Amita Neuroendovascular Surgery team of experts provide patients with a multidisciplinary approach to care in a collaborative, patient and family-focused environment.

Dr. Geraghty’s practice focuses on minimally-invasive, endovascular treatments of brain and spinal cord vascular disease. Specifically, he is involved in the treatment of cerebral aneurysms, acute stroke thrombectomy, arteriovenous malformations, intracranial atherosclerosis, carotid artery stenosis and pre-operative tumor embolization of the brain and spine. 

Dr. Geraghty has appeared on ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC news as well as in the Chicago Sun Times. He is a senior member in the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery, has been invited to speak at multiple national meetings, and is a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery. He is also currently actively involved as a primary investigator for multiple clinical studies and registries.

Background

Dr. Geraghty grew up in the suburbs of Denver Colorado where he attended primary school before leaving for the University of Colorado at Boulder. From there he went on to medical school at the University of Colorado and Residency and Fellowship at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. After finishing training in 2013 he came to Advocate Health Care. His parents were both school teachers who instilled a strong work ethic in him from a young age. He has four siblings who live scattered throughout the country. He met his wife while living in Charlottesville, and they now have two young children as well as two miniature dachshunds.
